Travel Test FAQS

WHAT TESTS DO I NEED
FOR TRAVEL?

FAQs

I’M TRAVELLING ABROAD – what test do I need?

Some countries require a rapid antigen test, some require PCR.

  • You need to confirm the latest regulations here as they can change often.

  • Check at what point prior to departure the test must be performed – usually within 72 hours of travelling.

  • You will need a travel certificate or a QR code to upload to a travel app – provided if you have a negative result.

  • We can supply rapid antigen tests which are quicker, cheaper and easier than PCR. They can be performed at home with online nurse supervision and a Travel certificate within 15 minutes!

  • But, if required, we can supply PCR tests too via our partner labs.

Don’t forget to plan for the trip back.

A rapid antigen test is all you need for entering the UK. Take some of our tests with you and you can perform a test with online supervision from your hotel room before you head back. Whilst you now need to take government purchased PCR tests at day 2 and 8 AFTER return to UK, you can use an additional PCR test for the ‘Test To Release‘ option for reducing quarantine from 10 to 5 days when you’re back (only possible in England, not Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland).

I WANT A PCR TEST – what do I need to do?

PCR tests aren’t always required for travel. In fact, many countries, including the UK, will accept the cheaper, quicker and easier rapid antigen tests.

But, if a PCR is required by your destination country, or for test-to-release from quarantine, visit our store.

You will receive a certificate of fitness to travel certificate, included in the price.

If you need PCR tests to comply with the new government regulations for compulsory PCR tests at day 2 and 8 after arrival into the UK, you currently need to register for those before entering the UK. You buy them via the government portal at £210 for the two tests – we can not supply the day 2 and day 8 tests at present.

I WANT A TEST TO RETURN TO THE UK – and avoid the airport queues!

You simply need a negative COVID-19 test up to 72 hours before returning home to the UK. The rapid antigen test is the easiest way to do this and is accepted by the government regulations.

But you don’t need to worry about huge queues for testing at the airport before you can leave. Or finding you are positive, having checked out of your hotel and then being stranded.

Instead, take our rapid antigen tests with you, book an online supervision appointment from the comfort of your holiday accommodation within 3 days before you leave and we can provide you with a certificate that allows you to bypass the airport queues and avoid the stress!

AFTER returning to the UK you may now need to take additional PCR tests on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 from arrival. You may also need to quarantine in a hotel, otherwise in a specified address. Tests +/- hotel package need to be booked before you travel to UK. Rules are changing rapidly – llease check latest guidance here.

I AM ALREADY BACK IN THE UK – can I still apply to join the Test-to-Release scheme?

Yes – but you have to fill in another government passenger locator form within 48 hours of arrival (though rules many change again!). Visit our store to buy your test-to-release PCR test.

MY FLIGHT IS WITHIN 24 HOURS – can I book a supervision appointment?

We guarantee a supervised appointment when you book within 48 hours of your flight.

If your flight is within 24 hours it may not always be possible to book an appointment and we therefore can not guarantee availability. We will however, endeavour to accommodate your needs where we can.

I WANT A TEST TO RELEASE – and reduce quarantine to 5 days

Sorry to add to confusion but these rules are constantly changing…

The UK Government test-to-release scheme is only applicable in England, not in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
It allows you to take a COVID test 5 days after returning from a country that is not on the approved travel corridor list.

N.B. If you are returning from a country on the red list, you aren’t eligible for Test-to-Release, nor if entering Scotland, Wales or Nothern Ireland, even if you land in England first.

If your test is negative, you don’t have to complete the full 10 days of quarantine that is otherwise required. You can use a PCR test, but the test can’t be performed until 5 full days after you return. Apparently, for reasons we are yet to be told, rapid antigen tests are no longer approved for Test to Release.

Currently, in addition, you are also required to take a PCR on or before 2 days and on or after 8 days from arrival, even if you are released from quarantine in England. This helps identify new mutant strains of virus that may be entering the country.

This does not affect the test-to-release scheme.

ALL TESTING SERVICES – a comprehensive travel package

Reduce the stress by ordering all your travel tests at once.
Check the latest guidelines in case you need a PCR test to enter other countries.
Otherwise, buy a pack of rapid antigen tests that you can use before you travel, before you return to UK, and for other needs…all supervised by our healthcare professional to provide you with official confirmation of the result.

You’ll now need to do PCRs on day 2 and 8. We do not provide these specific tests but they can be bought from the government before you travel via a government portal.

Test to release from quarantine at day 5 is optional, and only available to those in England, who haven’t returned from a red list country. Currently, it requires an additional PCR test which you can obtain through our store.

WHAT ARE THE NEW RULES FROM 15TH FEB – confused?!

Nothing’s changed as far as leaving the UK…you still need to check your destination country’s entry requirements (and any transit country rules too). Rapid antigen tests, or sometimes PCR tests are needed as well as a travel certificate.

But you need to do things differently, if you are entering the UK.
Before you travel you need to book 2 PCR tests via a government portal at a cost of £210, that you are obliged to perform on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 following arrival into the UK. These are to identify any new variants that may be coming into the UK.

If you are coming from a country on the Red List, you also need to book hotel quarantine via the same portal, for £1750 including the two tests. You will have to quarantine for 10 days. If you are coming from an Amber list country you can quarantine in a designated address for 10 days but still need to perform the two PCR tests.

If you are entering England (not Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland), you can still apply for early release from quarantine at day 5 using the Test to Release scheme. It requires an additional PCR test. Not applicable from Red List countries.

N.B. Rules change often – please check government websites for UK and devolved nations.

WHAT IS TEST-TO-RELEASE?

Test-to-release is a scheme set up by the UK government (England only) to allow you to be released from quarantine 5 days after return instead of the 10 days currently required for many countries.
You just need proof of a negative COVID test, taken at 5 days, by a government approved testing service. Unfortunately, Rapid Antigen Tests are no longer allowed for Test-to-Release (though rules change daily and they are still fine for most other travel needs).
Instead, we can provide you with PCR tests via our partner lab, Randox.

AM I ELIGIBLE FOR TEST-TO-RELEASE?

You are not eligible for Test-to-Release if returning from a high risk country that has been travel banned as you will be refused entry into the UK. See latest list here.

You do not need to quarantine if you are returning from a country on the travel corridor list, thought to be safe. Currently few, if any countries are on the travel corridor list.

Test-to-Release is only allowed in England…not Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

HOW DO I JOIN THE TEST-TO-RELEASE SCHEME?

You need to buy a PCR test and register your participation in the scheme as well as the name of the lab providing the test, when completing the UK government Passenger Locator Form.

Your Passenger Locator Form can be completed in the 48 hours before arriving back in the UK, or at the arrival airport.

Your test will be sent to your home and you will perform it yourself and return to lab.
Your result will take around 24-48 hours. If negative you are free to release from quarantine (England only).

I WANT A TEST-TO-RELEASE – and reduce quarantine to 5 days

Sorry to add to the confusion but these rules are constantly changing…check latest government advice here.

WHAT IS THE PASSENGER LOCATOR FORM?

The Passenger Locator Form is a government form you need to complete in the 48 hours before entering the UK. You will be asked to complete it before you are allowed to go through passport control. Read more about the Passenger Locator Form.

If you want to participate in the Test-to-Release scheme, you will need to enter a unique ID provided when you buy your test and register with the lab.

You can choose to participate after returning to the UK – but you will need to fill out another Passenger Locator Form.

I HAVE AN INVALID TEST – what happens now?

We recommend you book your test supervision appointment as early as possible within the 72hour window prior to travel in case of the rare event of a problem with your test (N.B. some countries stipulate a 48hour window).

There is a 1-2% chance of an invalid test. An invalid test can be caused by a deteriorated test or a failure to follow instructions properly or poor sample collection.

An invalid test result is shown by the failure of the quality control ‘C’ line to appear, even if the detection line ‘T’ appears.

In the event of  an invalid test that is deemed a product error we will do our best to rectify the issue in a number of ways:

  • If you have purchased additional tests, and have one available to use, we will offer a repeat test supervision immediately or later if required, using that test, and replace or refund the invalid one as preferred..
  • If you do not have a spare test available, we will endeavour to supply you with another test kit and appointment within 24 hours.
  • However, if your flight is within 24 hours, this might not be sufficient. In this case we will refund the cost of test and postage and pay for you to take the test at your departure airport up to a cost of £60.

If the invalid test is a result of failure to follow the instructions of our nurses, we have a no refund policy.

I’VE NOT RECEIVED MY TEST – what happens now?

We do not hold any responsibility if the wrong address is provided on purchase so please ensure details are correctly entered. Your delivery is tracked and you will be provided with the tracking reference. If you are unable to take delivery then please ensure you leave instructions for the delivery service.

If you have entered the incorrect details and the product has not yet been dispatched, we will endeavour to change the delivery address. However, if already dispatched we are unable to change details.

Please note all deliveries must be signed for.  If the parcel is undeliverable, it will be returned to sender. We can redispatch the products, but a new delivery charge will need to be paid by the customer and this will obviously result in a delay.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide refunds on tests unless faulty.
