FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

Day 2 Rapid Antigen Tests

Does each passenger need a Unique Reference Number(URN)?

Yes, each person in your booking will be provided with a URN. This then needs to be used to fill in the passenger locator forms.

What is a Unique Reference Number?

A URN is the unique reference number you receive when you purchase a Day 2 test. When you receive your URN from us, you will need to use this number on your passenger locator form when returning to the UK from abroad. Each URN is unique to each customer and cannot be duplicated.  Retain this number for when you perform the test as it will need to be captured on our our online portal when completed the registration form.

The URN number is reported to Public Health England on sale of a test and included when we upload your results to Public Health England after performing the test.

PCR Tests

What is a PCR test?

COVID-19 PCR testing is a highly sensitive laboratory method that allows the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The PCR test method is recognised as the preferred, gold-standard method due to the accuracy of results, however, these tests are slightly more expensive than a Rapid Antigen test.

These tests check to see if you are currently infected with the virus from an analysis of a swab sample taken from your nose and throat.

Breathe Assured is on the Government’s approved list of COVID-19 testing service providers.

I’ve ordered my test, but what’s next?

You will have received an email with further instructions. It is very important that you register your test kit on https://portal.salient.bio/. Once registered you wait for your test to arrive and follow the link in the email. This will take you through the Day-2/ pre-departure testing process.

What is the barcode for?

This will be used for you to track your test. You will receive 3 of these. One should be attached to the buffer tube. One will be on the specimen bag and the other is for you to keep safe and attach to your leaflet. If you have any queries about your Day-2 test you will be asked for this number on this barcode – so make sure you don’t throw it away!

How do I register my test kit?

Simply follow the instructions sent to your email address. You will need to head to the https://portal.salient.bio/ website. This is where you will be able to register your test. You must do this before you complete the test and send it off to the lab. Otherwise, they will not be able to identify whose sample is who’s.

Can I send my PCR test with a courier of my choice?

Yes, you can. However, you will need to pay for this. Our lab partners recommend that you use a tracked courier service if you decide to deliver privately.

When will I receive my results?

Following receipt of your sample, we will make every reasonable endeavour to provide your test results within a reasonable timeframe following our laboratory receiving your sample. We use Royal Mail 24hr Tracked – we aim to provide results within 48 hours of receipt of sample into the lab.

However, for weekend next day delivery, you will need to ask for Special Delivery at the post office. 24hr Tracked will provide you with next day delivery to the lab Sun – Thu, but if you are posting your parcel on Friday or Saturday and want it to arrive next day, you will need to purchase Special Delivery.

Delivery dates for test results are approximate and Breathe Assured will not be held liable for any delay in delivery, particularly in light of global shortages in raw materials and the unprecedented level of demand for our services in the current challenging circumstance, as well as subject to further terms in this agreement.

It is important to note that we are dealing with sensitive biological samples, which in rare circumstances may require secondary testing. Breathe Assured will not release a result until a thorough review has been carried out and we are satisfied with the deliverable result. This is in line with good laboratory practice.

Where should I send my PCR test once I have taken the sample?

There is a label on the returns package which shows the address. Please also see the address below

Unit 504/506 Cocoa Studios

The Biscuit Factory

100 Drummond Road

London

SE16 4DG

You can also drop the package off yourself if you would prefer to do so. There is a dropbox outside of the lab at the above address.

How do I know my PCR sample has been received by the lab?

If you have registered your sample online and sent the sample back to our laboratory, you will be notified when the physical sample has arrived at our laboratory. You must register your test kit to ensure we have your details.

Will I get a travel certificate for my PCR Test?

No, our PCR tests are for Day-2 only and we cannot yet provide PCR travel certification.

What is my URN?

Your URN is your unique reference number. You can find this on the email you received after purchasing your test. You must use this to register your test kit.

Can I take my completed sample kit to the lab myself?

Yes, you can. There is a drop box just outside the lab at the following address

Unit 504/506 Cocoa Studios

The Biscuit Factory

100 Drummond Road

London

SE16 4DG

How do I use the COVID-19 PCR sample collection kit?

Each sample collection kit contains instructions for use. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure the instructions are read in full prior to engaging in the sampling process. If you’re booked in for a consultation, do not start the testing process until you are asked to do so by one of our nurses.

How do I know if my PCR registration has been successful?

You will receive an email confirming your registration was successful. If you are unsure if your registration was successful, please try to register again as the site will not allow you to register the same URN twice.

Please note that it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that they have removed any blocks on their email system that may prevent the registration notification and subsequent reports of results coming through.

Also, we advise customers to ensure that they check SPAM / JUNK folders for email correspondence.

Breathe Assured hold no liability where the customers own email provider has blocked communication from Breathe Assured

How do I return my COVID-19 PCR sample collection kit?

Simply follow the instructions provided with your test kit. Please ensure that the test is packed correctly and as per the instructions. Finally, place all the items in the Royal Mail 24hr Tracked package and post it.

Where is my test being sent?

We are partnered with a laboratory in London called Salient Bio.

Before boarding a flight to the USA, most passengers – regardless of vaccination status – are required to show a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 1 day before travel.

Children under 2 years old do not need to test.

Upon arrival in USA, fully vaccinated travellers (suggested):

  • do not have to quarantine
  • are recommended to take a viral test within 3 to 5 days of arrival in the US.

If you have recovered from a documented COVID-19 infection within the past 90 days (regardless of vaccination status):

  • you do not need to get a test 3 to 5 days after travel

Unvaccinated:

Required to show a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 1 day before travel.

Quarantine for 5 full days even if you test negative, unless you have documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days.

A test 3-5 days after arrival in USA, unless you have documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days.

Children 17 and under who are not fully vaccinated are exempt from the quarantine requirement after arrival in the USA but must take a test 3 to 5 days after arrival and self-isolate should any symptoms develop or if they test positive.

If a child is not fully vaccinated and traveling alone or with adults who are not fully vaccinated, they will have to show proof of a negative viral test from a sample taken within one day of departure.

What must I do once I have arrived in the USA?

If you are fully vaccinated, it is recommended you complete a rapid antigen test 3 – 5 days after arrival in the USA. The same rules apply for children aged between 2 – 17 years old.

If you are unvaccinated, you must complete a rapid antigen test 3 – 5 days after arrival and quarantine for 5 days. The same rules apply for children aged between 2 – 17 years old.

Do I need to quarantine in the USA?

If you are vaccinated, you do not need to quarantine upon arrival in the USA

If you are unvaccinated, you will need to quarantine for 7 days – providing you have been tested between days 3 – 5. If not, you will need to quarantine for 10 days.

What are the requirements for travelling from the USA to the UK?

If you are fully vaccinated or 18 years old or younger, there are no requirements to entering the UK

If you are unvaccinated, you must complete a rapid antigen test 72 hours prior to arrival

  • This is 72 hours before you land in the UK – make sure you take time difference and travel time into account

What tests do I need to take to travel to the USA?

For entry to the USA you must complete a nurse supervised rapid antigen test. You can use this link to see our testing options (https://breatheassured.com/usa-travel-tests/

Test Information

Can I eat or drink before my appointment?

Unlike other tests, thankfully food, drink and smoking is not an issue for us as the swab is a strictly and purely nostril only test.
However, nasally ingested medication such as nasal sprays and antihistamines may influence the result of the test.
3 hours should pass between any nasally ingested substances and the test being taken and there is no issue.
Although drinking will not affect the test result, our nurses will not continue the testing process, should any individual appear to be intoxicated.

Can I use the Rapid Antigen Test when travelling between countries?

Our Rapid Antigen tests are only approved for use when travelling to and from the United Kingdom, and should not be used when travelling between EU and other countries.

What is a Rapid Antigen Test?

Rapid Antigen Tests or Lateral Flow Tests are used to detect protein fragments unique to COVID-19 and its variants. The test is performed using a nasal swab and a lateral flow cartridge indicating a positive or negative result. They look for those with high viral loads who could be infectious to others (even though they may be asymptomatic). The accuracy of the test is dependent on the correct testing procedure, which is why travel tests require supervision to be valid.

Rapid antigen tests can be used for entry into many countries (please check latest requirements). In addition, they can be used for the pre-departure test (test to return) from all countries into the UK.

Results are delivered within 15 minutes, with a travel certificate emailed straight away.

What is a PCR Test?

A PCR Test or Polymerase Chain Reaction test is used to detect RNA or genetic material specific to COVID-19 and its variants. It is very important in the detection of variants entering the country through the various travel channels.

The PCR Test is performed using a nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal (nose and throat) swab to obtain a sample. The sample is then delivered to a laboratory for in-depth analysis.

Results are delivered within 2 – 3 days (usually within 24 hours of being received in the laboratory).

What if I test positive?

If at any stage of the testing process you test positive for Covid-19, we will not issue a travel certificate as per the requirements of the destination country, however, you are no longer required to isolate or perform a PCR test to confirm.

• Your coronavirus test result is positive. This means you probably have the virus.
• You are no longer legally required to self-isolate.
• However, if you have a positive test result, the public health advice is to stay at home and avoid contact with other people where possible.
• It is advised that you do not travel, including to leave the UK
• For more information visit https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
• Contact 111 if you need medical help. In an emergency dial 999.

If you have symptoms of Covid-19 and your condition gets worse or fails to improve, ring 111 or in an emergency ring 999.

Please refer to the NHS guidance online at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-COVID-19.

How long does it take to receive my PCR test results?

If using a Randox Drop Box location, you will receive your results next day (up to 11:59pm) via email. If you are using an alternative courier such as DX, you will receive your result within 12-24 hours of sample receipt at the laboratory in Northern Ireland.

What if my test is invalid?

We recommend you book your test supervision appointment as early as possible within the 72 (or occasionally 48) hour window prior to travel in case of the rare event of a problem with your test.

There is a 1-2% chance of an invalid test. An invalid test can be caused by a faulty test, a failure to follow instructions properly, or poor sample collection.

An invalid test result is shown by the failure of the quality control ‘C’ line to appear, even if the detection line ‘T’ appears.

In the event of an invalid test that is deemed a product error, we will do our best to rectify the issue in several ways:

  • If you have purchased additional tests, and have one available to use, we will offer a repeat test supervision immediately using the available test. We will then replace or refund the invalid one as preferred.
  • If you do not have a spare test available, we will endeavour to supply you with another test kit and appointment within 24 hours. However, if your flight is within 24 hours, this might not be sufficient. In this case we will refund the cost of test and postage and pay for you to take the test at your departure airport up to a cost of £50.

If the invalid test is a result of failure to follow the instructions of our nurses, we have a no refund policy.

Are Rapid Antigen tests approved?

Our rapid antigen tests are CE 0123 marked  and approved for home testing in the UK. However,  nurse-specialised online appointments are required for travel and other certificates.

Not suitable for use when travelling between EU countries. Our rapid antigen test can only be used when travelling to and from the United Kingdom.

Where do I find my certificate?

The certificate for your rapid antigen test will be emailed at the end of the supervision appointment. It is important to check you have received this before you travel and take a copy (either as a photo on your phone, or printed) in case there is no Wi-Fi connectivity at the airport.

I have forgotten my password?

  1. Navigate to My Account on the menu.
  2. Click on Forgot my password.
  3. Insert the email address used when you purchased the tests
  4. Click Reset password
  5. A new password reset email will be sent to your email address.

Worried about a nasal swab?

The lateral flow tests we use are non-invasive, and if used correctly, under the expert supervision of our nurses, should not cause you any injury.

Whilst many tests used in COVID swabbing involve the swabbing of the nasopharyngeal area the tests we use are anterior nasal swabs which only require the swab to be inserted 1-2cm into the nostril.

If you have any coagulation concerns or unusual nasal anatomy, we would still recommend that you continue the test with extra attention and care, using a gentle motion when swabbing.

The lateral flow tests we use are not designed for throat swabbing. Whilst it won’t affect sensitivity, it may affect specificity and therefore may result in a higher chance of false positives.

Travel Information

What test do I need to travel abroad?

You will need tests for the outbound (departure) journey and the inbound (return) journey of your trip.

Outbound Trip

The tests required for your outbound journey will be determined by the destinations you plan to visit.

Check the latest travel regulations of your destination prior to purchasing your test.

There are two types of tests that are accepted for this purpose:

  • Rapid Antigen Lateral Flow Test
  • PCR Test

Check at what time frame to departure the test must be performed as this may change with each country (either 72 hours or 48 hours).

Inbound Trip

The tests required for your return journey to the UK is determined by the UK Governments Travel System. Countries are deemed to be either non-red or red list countries based on the level of risk of Covid-19 currently experienced by the country.

For more information of the test requirements and which countries are on the red list, read our UK Travel Requirements Page.

Why can’t I use the government provided test for travel?

A Rapid Antigen test is only valid for travel when performed under medical supervision and accompanied by a Travel Certificate signed by a Medical Professional. The NHS do not have the facilities or resources to issue travel certificates.

Will my test be valid if my flights change?

The test result is only valid for up to 72 hours before travel to UK (or less, for other countries you may be visiting).

If you have performed your tests within the recommended time and your flights are then moved outside of the specific time period, the test result will no longer be valid and a new test will need to be performed.

For example: Your destination requires a test result within 48 hours of arrival. You perform the test 48 hours prior to departure and receive your travel certificate. The flight is then moved:

  • To an earlier time-slot – your test result will still be valid.
  • To a time over 48 hours after your test result – the result will no longer be valid as you are out of the 48 hour pre-arrival window.

Breathe Assured cannot be held liable for invalid tests due to a change in travel or transport arrangements.

What is the Passenger Locator Form?

The Passenger Locator Form is a government form you need to complete in the 48 hours before entering the UK. You will be asked to complete it before you will be allowed to go through passport control. This form is required for all passengers travelling to the United Kingdom and is an important requirement in the Test-to-Release scheme.
